Yep, I'm going to draw the family of each one of the Mane 6  :3 Now it's Twilight's turn! It took me long enough to decide what her last name should have been. Light? Velvet? Armor? Then I ended up with Sparkle. So, they're: Night Light Sparkle, Twilight Aster Sparkle, Twilight Velvet (Sparkle) and Shining Armor Sparkle. Let's go with their headcanons!

I imagine Twilight Velvet being just like Twilight Aster. Same passion for study and culture, but maybe not the same personality: Velvet is more apprehensive and nervous than Aster. Twi's mother was born in Canterlot in a noble Unicorn family. She's purebred and has inherited great magic skills from her parents. When she was a filly she had lots of friends, unlike her daughter, and used not to worry too much about things. Anyway, she loved studying and reading. She was never really interested in doing reckless things, but her friends never judged or called her names for that. Velvet was great at casting spells, but she preferred reading books about foreign countries than magic. As soon as she grew older, she visited many lands and stayed in some of them for a few years: she lived in Manehattan, Framargue and Mexicolt. In Trottingham she met a fabulous stallion whose name was Night Light Sparkle, and she decided to go back to Canterlot with him. Her parents weren't much happy to see that she had brought a common and uneducated colt, but they remained silent on this topic.
Night Light Sparkle wasn't born in the United States of Amareca; but in Hevonland. His strong and great build, in fact, reminded of those cold regions. He had worked in his country as a librarian for his entire life, until he had decided to move to a more lively place. He was very fond of reading, but he was a gambler as well. That was his only way to gain some money, when he lived in his native country, and he hadn't lost this habit. Because of it, he soon found himself with no money and no job, which made quite difficult survive in a big and restless city. He earned a living doing magic tricks in theaters (when some good soul offered him this chance) or on the street. During one of these performances, he saw a beautiful filly walking past the crowd he had in front. He had never seen such a lovely mare. She spread intelligence and sharpness everywhere she lain her eyes. He had to conquer her. He called her and made her participate in his simple show, seeing how she was enjoying it. When a last sparkle glowed, all the ponies clapped their hooves and threw money into the open saddlebag in front of Night Light. Velvet watched this action with curiosity, noticing how glad the stallion beside her looked. She gave him a small gem and started to walk away, smiling. Night Light was surprised he had gained her trust so fast, since she seemed quite educated and highborn and he expected her to not even look at him.
After a few days, Velvet saw the blue stallion again, and offered him a coffee to drink together. Inside the building, an awkward atmosphere soon formed, as Night Light tried to study the light blue eyes he had started to love. The conversation  was started by the colt, who took some courage and said something about the weather. All Velvet do was smiling and avoiding his gaze, searching for the right words to reply with. After half an hour in almost complete silence, the coffee had become cold. - I didn't even thank you... - whispered Night Light, apologizing for his rudeness. When Velvet finally decided to speak, she asked the only thing Night Light didn't want her to say. She questioned him about his life, where he lived and his story. He looked down, folding his ears. Velvet felt guilty for having touched that point, but when she was going to say she was sorry, she was interrupted by the stallion. He said he was a rich and noble Unicorn who was in that city only because of business, and he performed those shows because he liked to see foals enjoy magic tricks. Velvet's eyes widened as her smile grew on her muzzle. That colt was perfect. Even her parents would have loved him! She told him about her life, and Night Light could confirm his previous thought about her refinement. Velvet then asked him to go and live with her, in Canterlot. Night Light couldn't believe his ears. They had know each other for not even a week, and she had already told him to live with her. Was that possible? Was she trying to spoof him? Or was she just a naive young mare? He decided it was the last option, and thought at what he was going to gain. Just some time around that fancy family, and he would have been able to go and live on his own, richer than ever.
However, not everything went as he planned: even though he tried not to stay around Velvet, she seemed in love with him, and he was slowly starting to love her in return. Then one night, after a few months spent without even talking to one another, they found themselves in the garden, gazing at the stars. When Velvet lain her muzzle on Night Light's chest, the stallion felt terrible guilt flow through his veins. Not able to resist anymore, he said all the truth in one breath, starting with "I lied to you". The mare looked at him, hurt and surprised ad the same time, but she closed her eyes as the blue colt approached his muzzle to hers. The following kiss felt magic to both of them, as their horns sparked and their ears splayed back.
Anyway, Velvet's parents were not happy to discover the reality about the young stallion she loved. Actually, they literally kicked both of them out the house, yelling not to come back. What they didn't know was that Night Light had saved all the money he had gained while living with them and before, and that those money was enough to buy a small villa in the outskirt of Canterlot. Even Night Light himself was quite surprised, but then he realized all the years he had spent scraping up.
Their first son, Shining Armor Sparkle, was an "accident". They didn't want a foal yet, since they were both quite young, about 20 years old, and they didn't know how the whole "being parents" thing works. However, they loved the little colt more than their own life, also because he loved them in return more than anything else. Shining Armor was a real gentlecolt even when he was a teen; he was always polite and quiet and he often caught the attention of the other mares. When he became a Royal Guard, then he was just irresistible. He met the mare of his life when he was attending the high school and Twi was just a few months old.
The little purple thing, instead, was born after a lot of time spent on thinking and pondering about having another foal. Shining was excited of having a sibling; this also meant he may have spent more time with his best friend, a filly named Cadance, who was looking for a job as foalsitter. Twilight Aster Sparkle really enjoyed the company of the pink mare since the first day they met, when the Unicorn was 4 years old and Shining and Cadance were 17. The two fillies were perfect to each other: they both loved magic and Twilight Sparkle loved to learn, too, so she was always ready to study some new spells with her foalsitter. The fact that, two years later, Cadance had become Shining's marefriend made things even better.
Twilight Aster Sparkle began to love books and studying when she was attending the primary school and her teacher read a short story in class. Little Twi was really excited and when she came home she asked Velvet about that tale. The mother picked its book and gave it to Twilight, who "read" it every day since that moment. When she finally learned how to read, she stopped looking at the pictures and started scanning the words instead. Even though she may deny it, Princess Twilight still has got that small and colorful book, somewhere in her library.
Twilight Sparkle became Celestia's pupil after the accident of Sunset Shimmer. However, the white alicorn had noticed the skilled Unicorn even before, and she had thought of taking her under her wing. Twilight loved studying even more, since that day, and her results improved. Of course, she was quite disappointed and maybe even annoyed when she was sent to Ponyville, but that's certainly been an important step of her life. Without it, and so without her friends, she would have become like Sunset Shimmer, perhaps. AAAAAnd this opens a whole topic I don't want to think about because I'm tired ç_ç

So! I'm sorry this may be a little too... "rough" as back story, but I hope you enjoy it anyway ^^
